Department of Public Transformation’s first four years (2018–2021) highlight a bold effort to center arts and culture in rural community life through creativity, equity, and civic engagement. Grounded in values like compassion, accessibility, and leading with love, DoPT launched projects such as The YES! House in Granite Falls, MN, an artist-led transformation of a vacant building into a vibrant hub for gathering, creating, and collaboration. Their programming expanded across local, state, and national levels, from supporting rural artists through virtual networks to piloting innovative residency models like Ignite Rural. Even amid the challenges of the pandemic, supply delays, and growing organizational capacity, DoPT continued to spark creative possibility while strengthening community bonds.
